Work started around 2009, the first patents were filed in 2014, and the first hands-free line launched in 2017 from Lindon, Utah. The technology now holds over 170 patents and is licensed through parent company HandsFree Labs. How the Step-In Technology Actually Works

Every Kizik has a collapsible, specially engineered heel. As your foot enters the shoe, the heel compresses to let it slide in, then springs back to hold your foot snugly in place.
